Anders Brinch & Zhou Yilun: Inner Landscapes – Quirky Poetics

Opening at 三角洲 Deltainst, Hangzhou, on 7 November 2026, this exhibition brings together Anders Brinch (b. 1971) and Zhou Yilun 周轶伦 (b. 1983) in a dialogue between two visual worlds, where the familiar meets the surreal and cultural references are displaced and recoded. Brinch draws on Dionysian and tropical imaginaries as a counterpoint to his Nordic background, while Zhou reinterprets Western art history and popular culture through aesthetic strategies rooted in a Chinese context.

What unites them is a shared interest in accumulation, transformation and unexpected material encounters. Brinch’s compositions of glitter, plaster and organic matter find an echo in Zhou’s assemblages of found objects. In both practices, the skeleton appears as a recurring motif—not simply as a vanitas symbol, but as a reflection on contemporary image and consumer culture.

Together, their works unfold a transcultural dialogue about ideas of an imagined elsewhere, where inner and outer geographies merge and cultural references are continually reconfigured.
